At the moment, our champion Pear Tree is still standing. We were told last year by HS2 Ltd’s enabling contractors LM that it was to be left until actual construction started, would then be felled and placed as a “wildlife habitat” in or near the wood. We now learn that they are “exploring options”, so we wait and see. The tree seems to be safe for the moment, despite local rumours to the contrary – which also had it already felled! There’s a lot of misinformation being spread by word of mouth, so here is the official Cubbington Pear Tree story, from 2011 to April 2020, and also a copy of the assessment of the tree carried out in 2015 at the behest of a Government Transport minister.
The Cubbington Pear Tree Story Apologies, it seems this couldn’t be read in the original Word document, but is now a .pdf file.
