The results of the European Tree of the Year competition were announced in Brussels on April 20th. Despite much hard work on the part of Cubbington Action Group and our colleagues in other groups, including translations into several languages to post on various websites, our pear tree was unable to match the huge totals for the East European trees. For the first three weeks of voting, which could be followed on-line, they romped ahead of the competition. During the final week, voting figures were not made public. The winning tree was a Hungarian oak tree. Our wild pear came 8th, with a respectable number of votes and the best result from the home countries. Thanks to all who supported our tree by voting and by spreading the word.
