NEF report says HS2 will worsen the N-S divide and should be scrapped

20 March 2019 By Rosemary Guiot

The New Economics Foundation today published a report on HS2.   NEF states that the project will create a greater north-south divide, with London the main beneficiary, and should be scrapped in favour of improving transport services elsewhere.

Yesterday’s Guardian newspaper carried a preview of the main points of the report https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2019/mar/19/axe-hs2-north-midlands-london-new-economics-foundation, but the full 68 page report can be seen here https://neweconomics.org/uploads/files/A_Rail_Network_for_Everyone_WEB.pdf
In addition, HS2 Ltd have very quietly published figures on their website for carbon emissions forecast by HS2.  They promised it would be carbon neutral, but the figures show otherwise.  Stop HS2 gives these new figures here and also discusses the issue of “modal shift”, i.e. passengers who, it is claimed, would travel by HS2 instead of classic train, air or car.

Please would you take action on this and write to your MP, post it on Twitter (or retweet StopHS2’s tweets)?
